The business runs a fully functional indoor Vertical Farming Tower at the James Hutton Institute in Invergowrie (close to Dundee).  Ongoing commercial growth means we now need to recruit a Farm Manager to oversee our growing campus and Scottish assets.

Reporting into the Head of Science the Farm Manager will be responsible for managing all operational activities. The role involves plant growth knowledge alongside excellent management & planning skills. You will be leading a team of resource and planning supervisors, maintenance supervisor, trial coordinator and contribute for the growth and development of the site operations team.  The role involves planning, managing, monitoring all operational activities on the site e.g., ordering and managing the consumable stocks, maintenance of the Towers & site, processes related with the trial workflow (Seeding, trial runs, harvesting and packaging). The farm manger will also support activities or trials with internal and external stakeholders. Key responsibilities include:

• Develop a plan for all activities on the site including trials plan for the year along with science team and support R&D and customer growth trials.
• Manage and maintain inventory & stocks for all consumables required for proper functioning of the site & trial execution.
• Plan, develop and run the activities in full compliance with the company policies, write SOPs, develop forward plans and budget.
• Ensure that all operational processes meet H&S standards.
• Support the science team, customer support and pre-sales team with operational activities.
• Coordinating customer & other visits on site. Ensure the facility is presentable for visits.
• Coordinate with QMS lead for harvesting and analysis on the final produce.
• Housekeeping, site orderliness and site maintenance – buildings, plant and ancillary equipment.

The ideal candidate will have worked in leading or managing a Controlled Agriculture Environment; e.g. other vertical farms, large industrial scale greenhouses or indoor horticulture and growing facilities. It might also suit traditional crop farm managers. You have good all-round hands on base maintenance  and engineering skills, coupled to agronomy and plant, fruit, vegetable seeding, care and cropping experience. The ability to lead, mentor, coach and grow a team is paramount here, as is your ability to plan, manage resources, budgets and coordinate across our business and multiple functions.
