BASED INVERGOWRIE SALARY TO C£30,000 PLUS BENS
Have you ever wanted to work for a company doing something truly incredible, disruptive and working for the greater good of planet Earth? Well, here is your chance. Intelligent Growth Solutions (IGS) is a fast growing innovative Agritech SME changing how the world does farming. Their leading edge indoor vertical farming towers allow IGS to control the weather and grow a range of plants, crops, fruit and herbs simultaneously at optimum conditions anywhere in the world.
Employing over 180 staff between sites in Edinburgh, outside Dundee (co-located and collaborating with the James Hutton institute) and Inverkeithing in Fife, we are deploying vertical farming towers globally. We are currently increasing the Research team and need to recruit a Plant Scientist to join the team. You can be based anywhere in East Central Scotland.
Reporting to the Head of Science, the Plant Scientist will join a multi-disciplinary team, with the goal of changing what is possible with the indoor farming technology, approach and use of the tools we have made to date. This is a very creative role, which will change greatly over time. You will be responsible for looking at a whole plant, fruit, vegetable and herb indoor growing ecosystem and how best to “engineer” this for optimum growth. You will have access to some of the best scientific minds and lab equipment available today.
Key responsibilities include:
Understanding the physical, chemical and biological functioning of plants.
Helping us design plant recipes to encourage and remove different crop attributes.
Quantifying the results from experiments and suggesting next steps.
Investigating the relationships between different inputs (light, water, environment).
Investigating why each crop type and stage of growth will require different things.
Improving shelf life using the tools available.
Working to increase the nutrition in the crops, to make them healthier for eating.
Using your own experience and knowledge to bring great research ideas to life.
Working with the fantastic James Hutton Inst to deliver collaborations.
The right candidate is ideally educated to degree calibre minimum in a Scientific discipline; biology, botany or plant/crop sciences preferred. This role will ideally suit experienced Plant Scientists and Plant Physiologists. We would be especially keen to hear from candidates who have worked in plant or crop research institutions, or perhaps trialling the growth of new medicinal plant and herb extracts e.g. Cannabis or from commercial scientists working for organic food growing and production businesses amongst others.
This represents an incredible opportunity to “give something back” and be part of a culture geared to helping others internally and externally. Your leading base salary (up to £30,000 per annum) is complemented by an extensive benefits package including private medical insurance, great pension, long term sickness cover and 35 days annual leave. Career stability and growth can be taken as a given.
