The Assistant Grower position is responsible for assisting in the management of crop growing operations for the greenhouse. This position is also responsible for the proper care of the greenhouse, including the principles and practices of plant cultivation, propagation, and food safety.
Essential Functions:
Discuss plant growing activities with Head Grower that are consistent with planned production schedules
Monitor growing conditions and discuss changes in humidity, moisture, temperature and other cultivation procedures with Head Grower to ensure conformance with quality control standards
Responsible for identifying crop issues and diagnosis of unknown health or damage problems and bringing it the attention of Head Grower and/or growers.
Maintain records of crop activities and observations, including organic pesticide applications, fertilizer applications, and growth records.
Maintain current knowledge of growing techniques and technologies
Performs other related duties and projects as business needs require at the direction of management
Education and Experience:
Associates Degree in Horticulture or related field OR;
Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience in Greenhouse Growing

Ability and willingness to interpret product testing results and apply necessary actions

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to calculate figures, amounts, portions, percentages and volume in relation to the application of organic fertilizers, chemicals and water. (Or learn make the necessary calculations, etc
Knowledge and understanding of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the horticulture environment.
Knowledge of various plant materials and applications
Ability to work in a fast paced environment and under tight deadlines.

Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk, reach with hands and arms, as well as stooping, kneeling, crouching and climbing.
Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, often lift up to 25 pounds, and constantly lift up to 10 pounds.
Ability to maneuver throughout Company facilities, including negotiate stairs in some locations.
Ability to see at close and distant ranges, as well as peripheral vision to notice safety hazards.
Ability to demonstrate normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; maintain corrected hearing and vision to normal range.

Primarily in a greenhouse/farming facility with frequent exposure to seasonal conditions which may range from extreme heat and humidity in the summer to cold in the winter. Direct exposure to loud noise levels and moderate levels of dust, allergens and other chemicals.
